Whether or not you have coloured, dry, damaged or fragile hair, it’s always important to make sure that you replenish your hair and provide it with the nutrients it needs in order to grow in strength. A hair mask is a great step to include in your hair care routine if you suffer from any of the above. Using one regularly can provide your hair with the necessary hydration it needs. There are many tips that you can do in order to get the most out of your hair mask. Here is what we recommend.
Shampoo Before and After!
Many of you may not know this, but quickly washing your hair with shampoo before you apply a mask will allow it to penetrate and absorb into the hair follicles much more efficiently. Think of it this way, before you apply any type of face mask, your usually going to wash your face to make sure that your skin will take in all the nutrients. This is the same for your hair. By shampooing first, you’re getting rid of all possible dirt and oils that may have accumulated throughout the day and allowing only the properties of the hair mask to be absorbed. Once you’ve applied the hair mask, you’re going to want to shampoo and condition after again to make sure that all the product has been properly washed out. Any leftover residue will result in greasy hair.
Pay Attention to the Ends
The ends of your hair are the most fragile part of your hair. They’re the part that tends to get the most damaged from heated styling tools, so make sure to concentrate on applying enough product to the ends. Once you’ve applied the hair mask, try putting your hair up with a loose clip or even in a shower cap, so that the ends of your hair sit firmly on the top of your head. Doing so will ensure that not only your ends are getting all the necessary product but also your scalp.
It’s important to know that not all hair masks will work for you. If you use a hair mask that makes your hair greasy, ditch it and find something new, most likely this specific product is too heavy for your hair type. A great option is to mix a few products you already carry at home to create the perfect blend for your hair type. If you have a hair mask that promotes shine and elasticity, don’t be afraid to mix it with another product that is purely to hydrate and seal in moisture.
Add Essential Oils
Essential oils make the perfect addition to your hair mask. A lot of them also promote and restore healthy hair growth. Before applying the mask to your hair, simply add a few drops of your chosen oil and carefully work it in. A couple of essential oils that will be great options for your hair mask are the Areej Aromatherapy, Lavender Oil and the Haven, Rosemary Hair Oil. I would not recommend doing this if you tend to have oily or greasy hair.
Once a week
Taking care of your hair is important, but there’s also no need to over do it with various treatments. Applying a hair mask once a week is more than enough. Make a habit of doing it every Friday or Saturday, and your hair will be in a much healthier condition because of it. If you don’t already have a hair mask, the Braes, There’s No Hurry – Deep Conditioning Hair Mask is the perfect addition.
