Whenever there’s a new trend regarding our skincare routine, we can’t help but get excited. The latest fad comes out of Asia and has everyone talking. Double cleansing is a method that is exactly as it sounds. The idea behind it is to clean your face twice, once to remove any surface grime or makeup and second time to truly purify the skin. If you’re someone who follows a lazy girl routine, we understand that the sound of this seems like too much. However, double cleansing is a very real and very effective method for washing your face, and if an additional two minutes is what it takes to get glowing skin, then I’d say it’s definitely worth it.
Cleanser # 1
The main objective of the first cleanse is to remove any dirt, grime, or even makeup that has built up throughout the day. This step is also especially important for people who live in polluted climates. Ideally, the product you use for this step shouldn’t contain any preservatives or silicone. It should be a cleansing oil that is completely natural. The best way to go would be to choose a product that is gentle and made to take makeup off.
Cleanser # 2
The second cleanser really allows you to feel like you’ve thoroughly cleaned your face. It’s important to understand that this step is to really purify your skin and remove any residual oil from the first step. A foaming face wash is a great option, this one from Ole Henrikson, is especially good. However, if you’ve already found your holy grail of face washes, you can still use it in this step.
Who shouldn’t try it
Although this seems like a super simple and easy way to fully clean your face, it’s important to know that this might not work for everyone. If you’re someone who has ultra-sensitive skin, it’s best to stick to cleaning only once as double cleansing can overstimulate the skin and can further aggravate your skin, if you have conditions such cystic acne or rosacea. Stick to cleansing once with an oil cleanser or a gentle milk cleanser and you’ll be good to go.
